Nursing Homes Week at Waterford

From Monday to Friday Rose, activities co-ordinator at St. Joseph’s Home had something special to mark Nursing Homes week but Thursday, 1st September was chosen as Culture Day which would be the big event of the week.  The concert hall was packed with residents, sisters and all the staff who were available.  Residents, dressed in their most colourful clothes were all eager to see the Show. The theme for the 2022 celebrations was Coming Together.  With so many nationalities among our staff it was a wonderful opportunity for them to unite in a Stage performance, each group showcasing their own country’s traditional costume.   So we had Brazil, India, Poland, Philippines, England, Ireland, Scotland, Nigeria and Biafra represented.  Following the performance of each group Rose went on to explain the food particular to each country which was tastefully displayed on a table to the right of the stage and was enjoyed by all at the end of the performance.

Thank you to The Metropolitan Mayor of Waterford, Councilor Jason Murphy, who attended our special event.  It was a joy to welcome Jason back to St. Joseph’s Home where his sister Aine works as a Healthcare Assistant.

There were some amazing comments at the end of the day from residents, staff and families and the following day it was still the main topic of conversation throughout the home.  Councilor Jason Murphy posted the following comment on Facebook:  “What an afternoon!  To celebrate Nursing Homes Week at St. Joseph’s Home where they had a culture day. Staff and Residents put on a performance to showcase music, dance and cuisine from the four corners of the world.  We would like to thank all for the fantastic day afforded to me”.
