The Blessings of St Joseph’s Icon on Caroline Sheppard Unit 10/03/2021

This Holy Father Pope Francis marked this year as the Year of St Joseph. He encourages all the faithful to pray to St Joseph and to imitate the Foster father of the Lord Jesus Christ who never let the Holy Family down and always responded when God spoke to him in his dreams. In response the little sisters bought three beautiful icons, for each unit and also for the convent. Fr Dan has spent the last week blessings each icon and encourage the residents to have recourse to him.

Good St Joseph pray for us.

Stories of Providence and naming 5 things the residents like to do 11/03/2021

Today the residents on Caroline Sheppard unit listened to Stories of Providence in how St Joseph looked after little sisters in their time of need.

The story goes like this:

A car was hastening on its journey; at the steering wheel was a contractor on his way to visit a distant building on the course of construction, accompanied by his engineer. This contractor sent his best gang of workers to carry out some important repairs and to make a good job of it; he had given the lowest possible estimate for the work, and was making no profit on it, though it would take several months and would require a considerable amount of material. When visiting the buildings on the previous day he had again shown his generous charity towards St Joseph’s poor.

The car was travelling fast, when suddenly a cow strayed into the road just in front of them! The brakes were jammed on immediately to avoid the animal, and caused the car to skid across the fine gravel and to mount the embankment, and then go straight towards a pylon. Without knowing how it happened, the engineer found himself in the contractors seat, the latter having been thrown our into the road, instinctively he seized the steering wheel to avoid the pylon into which the car must inevitably crash, when it came to a standstill just in front of the obstacle as though, to quote the words of the two men, St Joseph had come to their rescue. The engineer scrambled out of the car, which, with exception of the engine, was a complete wreck, and found the contractor safe and sound. “it’s because we are working of the Little Sisters,” he cried, “that we haven’t been killed!” they were neither killed no hurt, in fact they had nothing worse than a few bruises. Isn’t St Joseph good! Afterwards the resident each told us how they like to pray to St Joseph and Brigid who lost all her family and is now all alone in the world, shared to us that St Joseph is her foster father. She couldn’t ask for better!

To conclude the activity today each resident, with help, drew the outline of their hands on a sheet of paper and wrote 5 things they love to do. Josephine who rarely interacts, was able to participate by telling us 5 things she loves to do. St Joseph was undoubtable responsible for this!
