Talent exhibition at St Anne’s, London

The 16th of February was a special day for St Anne’s Home. For weeks, we had planned an art and talent exhibition, involving everyone at the home. Residents, staff, Sisters and volunteers were asked to reveal their personal talents and creations.

We started with poems; Home resident, Margaret McKirdy read her own poetry and our volunteer Amanda recited her own thoughts in poetry too. Two more of our ladies, Catherine Ryan and Mother Agnes introduced us to the beauty of sensitivity in poetry. Mariama, one of our dedicated staff talked about her native country, Sierra Leone and showed handmade clothes made by her sister, which are now a part of the exhibition. One of our receptionists, Grace showed us Shekere, a traditional West African percussion instrument.

Pauline McGrath spoke briefly about her talent. She made soft toys and teddy bears as well as making her own wedding and bridesmaids dresses and her own childrens clothes. Photographs of Pauline’s dresses and toy making skills are included in the exhibition display.

Home resident, Kathleen Sylvester and Fr. Aidan Sharratt spoke about their art work and inspirations when painting.

Provie- our independent multitalented resident and friend, who first contributed her time and talents from decades ago, to help the elderly in need and the Little Sisters contributed to our display with her lovely knitting.

Jim, our talented singer entertained us with his favourite songs, including one of his favourites, Franks Sinatra’s My Way.

To top it all, we were offered the delectable and delicious Hungarian cakes made by Kinga (HR) and the good old English Victoria Sponge cakes from our kitchen.
