JERSEY – an honour for Resident Bob Champion

Bob received the Arctic Star, a military campaign medal for those who served on the Arctic convoys north of the Arctic Circle during the war. Between 1941 and 1945 they transported 4 million tons of supplies and munitions to Russia – each journey facing extraordinary danger and hardship due to the sub zero temperatures and the German U boats.
Bob has previously been awarded the Atlantic Star for his involvement in the Battle of the Atlantic aboard HMS Kent and the Russian Embassy are looking to also award him with the Ushakov medal. Attending this ceremony at Little Sisters was the Bailiff – William Baihache; The Lieutenant Governor Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Dalton and Commodore Jamie Miller that reflects the amount of respect this man rightly deserved. Bob says that he was merely doing his duty “I was a serviceman doing a job and you faced whatever came at you”
