Sr. Catherine of the Infant Jesus organized a Come and See afternoon for young girls on the 14th September. She had already made contact with Leaving Cert Students from the Abbey Community College and so was sure that a small group would accept the invitation.
11 girls arrived at 3.00p.m. Mark, the only male was here on work experience and he bravely joined the group also. We met them in the tearoom and spent a little time getting to know one another. During this time Mary Fitzgerald, who was out celebrating her 101st Birthday returned home and came in to say hello, giving us all a chance to sing Happy Birthday and have a group photo. It was then arranged that they spend one hour in the Arts & Crafts with the residents. Sr. Catherine had already prepared for two groups, they really loved this interaction with the residents and they found it so enjoyable and interesting, they did not want to leave them! Six of the girls had already been here on work experience and so were familiar with the Arts & Crafts room. They then enjoyed afternoon tea and afterwards went with the residents on Lourdes for the daily Rosary. The majority of the group then came to the chapel and joined the community for Evening Prayer. For their next Come and See day they would like to begin with Mass and so it is planned for October with the theme Share your Faith. This group will be back again on the 30th of the month to join 90 others for the day retreat organized by the Abbey College – a beautiful way to begin this important year at College.
