The Little Sister arrived in Newcastle on 20th August 1866, and took up residence in a house in Clayton Street West. Here they set up a Home for the first elderly poor, moving to Westmorland Road when the premises became too small to accept the many applications that came pouring in. On 3rd. September 2016 celebrations took place at the Cathedral to mark the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the first Little Sisters. Bishop Seamus Cunningham was the main celebrant at the Mass at which some 270 friends of the Home, including Little Sisters and Residents, were present.
